Kellie Kamryn
Pleasure Island blurb:
Chelsea Hunter didn't come to the resort looking for sex. Jake Davis intends to change her mind. Will they be able to turn up the heat, or will their visit to Pleasure Island leave them cold?
After finalizing her divorce, Chelsea Hunter came to the resort island of Paradise for some peace and quiet so she could figure out what her next step would be. She hadn’t expected to find herself at an exotic hotel dedicated to pleasures of the flesh. Too bad she doesn’t want sex.
Jake Davis is back in Paradise after visiting a year ago when his own marriage fell apart. This time his fantasy is to guide a woman through her sexual journey. He hadn’t counted on being paired with the only woman in Paradise who prefers privacy over pleasure!
Will Jake be able to discover what Chelsea truly needs, or will their journey to Paradise remainunfulfilled?

"While Chelsea and Jake figure that out, let me tell you a little story about a girl on her journey to publishing. Hmm...Not sure I can make it as spicy as Chelsea and Jake's story but about twelve years ago, I had a health scare that prompted me to take the reins in my life and live it to the fullest. And that meant setting the goal of not only writing a book, but getting it published. Now the first couple of books I wrote are sitting in a file somewhere on the hard drive of my computer. Probably best they never see the light of day.) But like any great athlete (like I used to be) you have to start somewhere. You know - begin with simple rolls and cartwheels before you move onto the harder skills like flips and stuff. (ew *shudder* I just used simple jargon to describe a sport and career I participated in for 25 years!)

When I wasn't getting anywhere with publishing that first horrid book, I emailed one of my favorite authors, Eloisa James, to ask some advice and this led me down the right path...
1. In 2010, I joined the Romance Writers of America, then I registered for their annual conference, went to Florida (first big trip alone since kiddos were born) and met some wonderful writers who are now my friends.
2. In 2011 was asked to join a group of fellow romance authors and met some wonderful people who helped in my quest to be published. I learned about other publishing houses out there I hadn't heard of yet.
3. Three short stories were accepted and published as ebooks. Two novels have been contracted and will be released in the new year. If you want to hear more about it, click the link: http://kelliekamryn.blogspot.com/2011/12/holiday-message.html

4. Couldn't afford to go to RWA 2011, so went instead to the Moonlight and Magnolias Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. I reconnected with my friends in person, made new ones, and met Pamela (who invited me to be part of this blog hop), and had a fantastic time! I, also, got to meet Eloisa James again, go to her book signing, and have lunch with her and the other ladies who used to be on the bulletin board along with Julia Quinn. Pamela says, "And this girl can dance!"

These are just the highlights of my journey. Let's not gloss over all the hard work I put into my books, the nail nibbling sessions when I waited for my queries to come back with a yay or nay, the blog tours, and the article writing that all goes into it. Do I enjoy every second? Mostly. Some days my plate is so full, I wonder if I haven't bitten off more than I can chew. But if you're going to follow a dream, then you have the guts to muck it out as you're living it. Life isn't all champagne and roses. (Come to think of it, I can't remember the last time I had roses on my table, and it has been months since I've sipped a decent glass of champagne.) Among the shining moments, there are times when you're wondering what you're doing and if it'll be worth it. But when I wake up every day, with a story in my head, and people telling me I can do it - well, it's a grand day indeed.

Now tell me a little about your journey, leave your email addy and you could win a copy of my book!"

  2. Hi Kellie! We started our journey around the same time. I joined RWA in January of 2010. It is a lot of work, but I love it, and the writing community is such a welcoming, encouraging one.

Best wishes for much success, and I'll see you on the bestsellers lists!

  3. Yes, Delaney - we did join about the same time! I wish you all the success with your writing journey and I'll race you to the top! LOL And yes, I've found the writing community to be very supportive. Without it, it would be difficult to continue!

    theliberator12 - glad you agree :)

Thanks for having me here Pamela! I'll stop in throughout the day. And thanks for mentioning my, er, dancing skills, LOL

  5. Kellie, I love GRW. Been there over ten years and would NOT still be writing without them. I've learned so much. "Pleasure Island" sounds like a fun, hot read! Very enticing cover.

  6. Nice to hear about your journey and I believe that even greater things await you...

My journey hasn't been as eventful, but after...let's just say, a number of years, I did obtain my Bachelors degree in Creative Writing. The only problem was, I didn't know what to do with it. As a kid it sounded easy to just write a book, have it sell millions and make lots of money. All I ever wanted to do is write, and I never developed any sort of backup plan. I kept writing, mostly for self pleasure, and started on the journalism side with a small town paper. There is no money in that either, but it allowed me to write and that was most important. I have gained little or no monetary riches from writing, but have gained something much more valuable, the knowledge of entertaining others.
Finally, I submitted a group of my short stories to a publisher a few months ago and to my delight, I was accepted.
I still question when working on a story, is it worth it? Will something every come of it? Hopefully the day will come when I don't have those worries anymore.

  7. Hi Ladies. Nice post, by the way. Kellie, I loved reading about your journey. Mine has been longer--I started writing fiction in 2006--my goodness five years ago!! I'm still on the road to publication, but I believe in celebrating every step of that journey. Because the trip is as important as the destination!! I'm so lucky to have discovered those friends you speak of and their encouragement and support mean everything.

Good luck with this book and will all the ones to come. You've worked for it and you deserve it. But good grief, girl, Eloisa James? Good for you!!!

  9. Hi Kelly, Pamela. Nice post. I love hearing what drove an author to their current location. Though I had been writing for years, I wasn't taking it seriously, until I also faced a health issue and life kicked me in the butt. Suddenly it wasn't enough to settle for just a piece of the dream, I wanted it all. From your story it sounds like you are living your dream, and I'm happy to say, so am I.

  11. Sorry everyone for being MIA last night - my evenings are taken up with my kiddos!

Mike - that's what I love doing - sharing my stories with the world. I haven't made a lot of money at it either, but I think if you believe in yourself, things will happen when they're meant to.

Barb - wish I could say Eloisa was my best friend, LOL, but at GRW M&M I did get to tell her my story of how she encouraged me with that email. Every time I see her, I'm still a little tongue-tied! What I love about her is how down to earth and supportive of other writers she is!

Linsey - you are so fortunate to have a chapter close to you! My writer friends are mostly on-line because I don't have a chapter anywhere close to where I live. But by traveling, I've gotten to meet other writers and make wonderful friends in this community!

Mackenzie - glad to hear you're living your dream too! It's unfortunate that being faced with our immortality (at least in my case) tends to give us the kick in the ass to live life to the fullest. But I wouldn't change a thing! All the best to you. :)

Thanks so much for having me on the blog, Pamela!
