Welcome to Social Networkers Anonymous

Hello, my name is Pamela, and I am...

addicted to -- _______-- : Facebook. Twitter. Blogger.  Email.
aka ... Social Networking.

Anything here on this little typing box with its window on the world that connects me to my peeps and tweeps in SanFrancisco, New York, Dallas (TX), Finland, Australia, UK, Vietnam, or Peachtree City. I actually communicate with people all around the world, and...
 I LIKE IT!

It started with the readers' forum on Harlequin. You know those little books you buy at the grocery store...? I got to talking to authors, other readers... people from New Zealand, Australia, Paris.... I was hooked.

From there I graduated to Facebook. I started with just family, but then I learned I could talk with old friends from college, and then new friends I met said they were on Facebook too, and.... Well, now I'm there all the time. I've got two pages, belong to several groups ... I don't know how it happened; it just snowballed....

Some friends there all started blogging, so I did too. People shared my blog on Facebook and wrote nice comments, especially when I blogged on bacon.

Then I got a Twitter account.
At first I was timid... everybody seems to know everybody else on Twitter. It's like, you're walking into your spouse's office party. Everybody already knows everybody else... or so it seems. So you lurk at the bar, listen to the conversations, drink a little wine to get your courage up.
I started following my Facebook friends, then the next day, people I didn't know were following me. At first I was surprised and flattered (wow!),  but then I figured out separate the bots and spammers from the real people with whom I shared common interests: writing, reading, funny people, world events, technological trends, cats selling their dogs.

I even found my local Patch on Twitter, streaming School Board and Chamber of Commerce meetings.

Hunh. Local newstuff. Important things in my own community that's good to know, like airports and possible toll roads. You know, things that hit you in the wallet?

But other important things to know, as in new publishers launching,  agents looking for new submissions, General Hospital  being retired, and Ashton Kutcher on tv again (square root of 6.25=clever! @aplusk - ;) lol ).

All in 140 characters. Things move fast on Twitter.
Faster on TweetDeck! Check out Patrick Thunstrom's blog if you need TweetDeck tutorials. Very helpful!

But I have come to notice my connections with people around the world is not connecting me to those most important to me: my family. My Hero comes home, and the LAST thing he wants to do is anything involving typing.
My boys... well, they're texting me from downstairs - "What's 4 dinr?".

So there.
I said it. I acknowledge that I have a problem. Or maybe I have another career venue in promotions and being a Virtual Assistant.
Readers?
Anybody else struggle with Social Networking Addiciton?
Or...
Can you leave information on Virtual Assistants in the comments below ? Point me in a direction?

BTW, join the Love Revolution on Twitter at #MyWANA, Kristen Lamb's We Are Not Alone social networking bible and hashtag on Twitter.

Yeah, now I'm a pusher....

A bientot!

  1. I'm so, sorry, how did I miss this wonderful post on Friday?!

I'll admit, total addiction, and #MyWANA doesn't help! And thank you for sharing the TweetDeck Learning Guide!

  2. Until your tutorial blog came along, I had NO IDEA all TweetDeck offers! It is a very powerful tool and I'm so glad you are publishing that!
    Thank you.

  3. OMG, I agree completely!! I have serious issues, especially with wordpress, twitter, and facebook all on my phone. My husband says I am an addict, and I think he is right. :-)
In all seriousness, I have found that I need to turn off the alerts on my phone and close tweetdeck to get anything done. I also have committed to my husband that I will dedicate a few hours a night as "social-netwirking-free-time." I try to stick to that commitment, but it hasn't happened yet! :-)

  4. Susie, it is most wise to let your husband always think he is right.
I like the idea of SN Free Time, or better yet, a SN Free Zone...?

  5. Darn, about a year ago, I did something to my laptop where I cannot get on the Internet and my phone is old enough I don't do any of the fancy stuff. Heck I usually don't even turn it on. So, I've been writing like crazy on the laptop, but it's in the living room where the TV is and I was stupid enough to put JewelQuest III on it. Duh. Yeah, we all need a free zone. Have a super week! http://fateandfaith-julee.blogspot.com/2011/05/follow-friday-and-my-first-attempt-at.html
